Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Polyurethane dispersion films are inherently more sensitive to moisture, however, when crosslinked they are an effective substitute for the solvent-based urethanes. Different crosslinkers, their activation temperatures, typical crosslinking mechanisms and advantages of these resins as grinding vehicles and paint extenders for both organic and inorganic pigments are shown. Also discussed is their formulation with a variety of other water-borne resins and with different crosslinkers to optimize their properties. The article presents the development and chemistry of polyurethane powder coatings comprising the basic structure of the polyisocyanate crosslinkers. The recently achieved improvements in reactivity and performance of isophorone diisocyanate based crosslinkers, which contain no blocking agent and are emission-free, are discussed. Majority of coatings are multicoat systems, built up with a few layers of different materials even comprising a greater number of open, as well as locked and developed interfaces. Typically decorative, protective and special coatings are based on homogeneous polymer matrixes, however the use of heterogeneous polymer matrixes (polymer/polymer composites) for industrial coatings is expanding. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The theoretical light scattering efficiency of commonly used white pigments, extenders and microvoids dispersed in a polymer film has been computed at λ = 5500 Ã… as a function of particle or void size. Either Mie or Aden Kerker's theory has been used for computation depending upon the geometry of scattering particles. The utility of these results for selection and optimum utilization of different scattering materials for paint formulations is discussed. Finally the effect of PVC on the opacity of rutile based paints is discussed in the framework of modified Stieg's model for hiding power based on the dependent scattering theory of Fitzwater.
