Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Over the last decade, several new pigments made from optical layers of metals and dielectric layers, which fit the general term of optically variable pigments (OVPs), have been commercialized. These pigments generate high chroma and color travel, dramatic changes in color at different angles of illumination, and viewing to produce fascinating color effects in coatings, plastics, and cosmetics. Advances in their development have resulted in high chroma color shifting pigments, with greater utility and impact. This article will focus on dielectric layers for generating optically variable effects, present some basic structure appearance relationships, and cover some examples of application and performance in coatings. Titre : Geographical methods for modeling and understanding product using and operating environment Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Graham S. Duthie, Auteur Année de publication : 2006 Article en page(s) : p. 88-94 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Understanding how and under what conditions customers use products is critical to making sound engineering design decisions. Traditionally, new generation products are often based on prior designs and test specifications that may or may not subsume the range of conditions in a given set of operating environments. This article reviews geographical methods that can aid design engineers in their understanding of what the range of product operating environments will be and the proportion of products that may be in service under a given set of conditions. Ultimately, geographical methods can enable better quantification of the risk involved when making critical design decisions—specifically those decisions related to potentially marginal product function or durability within a certain geographical area.
