Titre : Automotive coatings defects : Part 2 : Weathering processes and their effets on coating properties Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Clifford K. Schoff, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 22-26 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This paper continues the discussion of weather-related field defects and problems in automotive coatings begun in Part 1.It describes changes in the properties of coatings such as fracture energy, hardness, glass transition, and barrier properties on weathering, and presents techniques that can be used to characterize a number of these changes. It describes the effects of weathering on various defects and discusses root cause analysis of field problems. It raises the possibility that important root causes of cracking, stone chipping, and mar and scratch problens may be in-plant repairs and overbaking. Titre : Organoclay pregels and quality performance testing Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : William A. Reynolds, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 28-34 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : During the 50 years since the development of organoclay Theological additives, organoclay manufacturers, the coatings industry, and other consumers of organoclays have found that measuring the theological properties of solvent pregels does not provide an accurate assessment of the performance of formulated products. Different lots of the same type or similar grades from various producers have been subjected to various pregel viscosity measurements as incoming raw material performance tests. Organoclay pregels have also been used to assess the efficiency of an organoclay, to provide a basis for comparison with other guides, and to determine finality differences between manufacturers. It is the objective of this article to provide practical information regarding the problems encountered by the organoclay user when attempting to measure quality by testing pregel viscosity. Using some common test criteria use also explain why the better indicator of true organoclay quality is performance of a complete paint formulation (or other product reflecting the intended final application/product evaluation). Titre : Finishes checklist : A guide to achieving optimum coating performance on exterior wood surfaces Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Tony Bonura, Auteur ; Steve Bussjaeger, Auteur ; Lynne Christensen, Auteur ; George Daisey, Auteur ; Tom Daniels, Auteur ; Mark Hirsch, Auteur ; Charles J. Jourdain, Auteur ; D. Douglas Mall, Auteur ; Bob Springate, Auteur ; Louis E. Wagner, Auteur ; Harry Warren, Auteur ; R. Sam Williams, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 36-49 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Various guidelines for achieving optimum coating performance on exterior wood surfaces are discussed. For best performance of a siding finish, certain design choice should be made, which can help to prevent moisture accumulation or excessive moisture fluctuations within the building components. These include the use of dry material during construction, procide adequate clearance to grade and drainage at grade and design with adequate roof overhang to protect the siding from weathering. Any wood surface exposed outdoors which is improperly prepared or finished is likely to present more frequent and more costly maintenance problems. Recommendations made for exterior finishes in protecting wood siding includes use of proper quality substrate and paint.
