Composites à fibres longuesIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Long fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites are one of the fastest growing segments experiencing 30% growth per year, over the last decade. This study describes the development of long fiber reinforced thermoplastic (LFRT) composites and the effect of fiber length on mold and process parameters of injection molding process. LFRT pellets of different sizes were prepared by an extrusion process using a specially designed impregnation die and palletized into different lengths. These pellets were injection molded to develop LFRT composites. Fiber length distributions were analyzed using a profile projector and an image analyzer software system. Maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (MA-g-PP) was added to improve the adhesion between glass fibers and polypropylene. Improvement in mechanical properties were analyzed for different pellet sizes with different fiber content for long fiber reinforced polypropylene (LFPP) and long fiber reinforced polyamide (LFPA) composite. Rigidité (mécanique)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Corrosion and erosion on metallic substrates are prevented using coatings of primers and paints consecutively. The paint and primer should adhere well on to the metallic surfaces in the form of thin films. These adherent films are not always long-lasting.
Elastic properties of films made of red oxide primers and polyurethane-based synthetic enamel paints were measured. The measurements included the modulus of elasticity, Poisson's ratio, and strain energy. If taken into account, these findings may ultimately lead to improved primer-paint systems for the surfaces.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Modulus of elasticity - Poisson's ratio - Strain energy - Rigidity

Vibrations (mécanique)Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Vibration casting method was developed for making polyetherimide (PEI)/Cloisite 30B nanocomposite. Towards this, a vibration casting apparatus was designed and developed. Vibration casting apparatus provided vibrational energy and heat, simultaneously. The processing parameters were established for vibration casting in terms of frequency of vibration, temperature, time and viscosity of casting mixture. Casting mixture of PEI/Cloisite 30B/N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMAc) was made by dissolving PEI in DMAc and then mixing Cloisite 30B in this solution. The viscosity of PEI/Cloisite 30B/DMAc mixture was optimized for casting by controlling the volume fraction of PEI in DMAc. Morphology of PEI/Cloisite 30B nanocomposite was examined by wide angle X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and contact angle measurement. Mechanical and thermal properties of PEI/Cloisite 30B nanocomposite were also compared with that of neat PEI to ascertain the efficacy of vibration casting method. ThermocinétiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Environmental corrosions on metallic substrates are successfully protected using paints and primers. The situation demands all these to be adhered on to the surfaces in the form of films. These adherent films are not long lasting always. It is envisaged that impact of temperature changes may be one of the most vital reasons for this situation.
Careful measurements of thermal properties of films made of red oxide primers, and polyurethane-based synthetic enamel paint are made in the present work. These properties include the thermal conductivity, specific heat and coefficient of thermal expansion. The results obtained reveals the utilisation of primers as thermal insulators and paints as conductors. These findings may also be helpful for better adhesion to and causes of unwanted removal of such films from different metallic substrates.Note de contenu : - Thermal conductivity
