The results showed that the residual epidermal matter was obviously removed from the surface of delimed pelt by pancreatin in the normal bating process and this action will be strengthened by both an increase of the amount of pancreatin and by prolonging the bating time. Evidence is provided of the function of pancreatin in bating, eliminating scud and clarifying the grain surface. Note de contenu : - Sample preparation

TaninsIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : This study describes an improvement to the tannic acid (TA) fixation technique. A comparison of the result of improved method with that of the conventional method and an en bloc staining method, shows that this method has a unique effect for characterizing the elastic fibres of goatskin. Moreover, their morphology is related to the concentration of TA, and the greatest effect occurs at a concentration of 0.01%. This method has furnished an effective means for researching the ultrastructural changes of elastic fibres in hides and skins in leather manufacturing and their pathological changes in the biology and medicine fields. PancréatineIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In order to illustrate the functions of pancreatin in the bating process during leather manufacture, we used TEM and SEM to observe the histological changes of collagen fibres of goatskin at the ultrastructural level under different bating conditions. Chemical analysis was simultaneously used to illustrate the action of pancreatin on interfibrillary substance and collagen protein. The results showed that the interfibrillary substance was removed and the collagen fibre structure was moderately opened-up under normal bating conditions. The removal of the interfibrillary substance aids in the opening-up of the collagen fibre structure.
Pancreatin has an obvious hydrolytic effect on mucin, mucoid and collagenous substance too. Excessive concentrations of pancreatin are beneficial to the removal of non-fibrous substance, i.e., the interfibrillary substance but, this excessive treatment can cause loss of collagen protein and damage of the collagen fibres making the collagen fibre structure over opened-up. Thus in conditions with excess pancreatin, the final result may be leather with an empty handle. This study provides a basis of ultrastructure and serves as scientific guidance for selection of chemicals and technique design for goat shoe upper leather manufacture and offers a reference to other related studies.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL METHODS : Sample preparation - Sampling and fixation - Specimen preparation for TEM and SEM - Determination of hydroxy-proline - Determination of reducing sugar(R.S.)
