CatéchineLa catéchine est une molécule de la famille des flavonoïdes de la sous-classe des flavanols. Elle est aussi connue sous le nom de catéchol, avec le risque de confusion avec le pyrocatéchol parfois dénommé lui aussi catéchol. L’usage dans la communauté scientifique a fini par imposer le terme de catéchine, dérivé du terme anglais catechin.
Initialement découverte dans les fruits de l'acacia à cachou (Acacia catechu) duquel elle dérive son nom, la catéchine et ses nombreux isomères sont de puissants antioxydants qui aident à prévenir les maladies inflammatoires et coronariennes.
Le terme de catéchine est aussi parfois utilisé pour désigner la classe des flavanols (flavan-3-ols, flavan-3,4-ols et leurs esters galliques). Pour éviter la confusion entre la classe et le composé, ce dernier est désigné dans ce contexte par (+/-)-catéchine.

Stabilité hydrothermaleIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is a very useful tool to research the hydrothermal stability of collagen which has also been defined in the leather industry as denaturation temperature (Td). It has been widely used to describe the tanning power of materials, according to changes of Td. In this paper, changes in hydrothermal stability of collagen with several catechin-metal compounds were described using DSC curves. The Td results lead us to conclude that the hydrothermal stability of collagen can be improved by compounds formed with catechin and metal ions (Cr(III), Al(III) and Cu(II)).The more stable the compound, the higher the Td of collagen tanned with the compound ie.the stronger the tanning power of the compound and the higher the hydrothermal stability of collagen. Tannage Résumé : The potential of iron as a tanning agent has been known for a long time, but commercial exploitation has been limited because of concerns over loss of strength and darkening of color with time. To overcome these drawbacks, a combination tannage using ferrous sulfate and phenol-condensed polymers is proposed. Trials indicate that a combination tannage using sulfonated urea-phenol-aldehyde-condensed polymer (Sul.) after ferrous sulfate (Fe(II)) treatment produces favorable results. Shrinkage temperatures of up to 90°C were observed, with tensile strength of 238.3 kg/cm2, tear strength of 73.3 kg/cm, and elongation at break of 62.1%. The Sul.-Fe(II) tanned leather was lighter in color compared to iron tanned leather, and neither a darkening of color or a reduction in strength upon ageing was observed. The combination tanning system also has demonstrable environmental benefits compared to basic chromium sulfate (BCS)-Fe(II) tanning systems. The Sul.-Fe(II) combined system helps to reduce chemical oxygen demand (COD), and total solids (TS) content. Through experiments it is evident that COD, TS loads are reduced by 37.59% and 36.35%, respectively for Fe(II)-Sul. method compared to Fe(II) method. Tannage Résumé : The effect of an Electro-Fenton system on the deep treatment of ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) and corresponding removal rate was investigated in this article. By using simulated ammonia nitrogen wastewater, it included a Cl- concentration of 3000 mg/L, SO42- concentration of 100 mg/L according to conventional leather wastewater conditions. Furthermore, Cl- and SO42- can be used as supporting electrolyte. After pretreatment, the ammonia nitrogen concentration kept about 100 mg/L. The optimal treatment conditions of Electro-Fenton system were obtained throughout single factors experiments. The current density was 150 A/m2, the reaction time was 30 min, the plate spacing distance was 40 mm, and the reaction temperature was adjusted to 40°C. After flocculation treatment of leather wastewater, the ammonia nitrogen concentration was 142.11 mg/L, and the tanning wastewater was further treated with an Electro-Fenton system. The final ammonia nitrogen concentration was 11.23 mg/L, which meets the first-level wastewater discharge standard. The removal rate was 92.10%, which indicated that the Electro-Fenton system is one kind of clean, feasible and sustainable treatment method for the deep treatment of ammonia nitrogen in tannery wastewater. Gluconique, AcideL'acide gluconique (C6H12O7) est un acide très répandu aussi bien chez les animaux que dans les plantes. Il est le plus souvent intégré dans une molécule plus grande comme c'est le cas dans diverses gommes. Il est obtenu à partir de la gomme d'acacia, à partir de laquelle on l'isole sous la forme de cristaux en aiguilles fondant à 165 °C. Il est soluble dans l'eau et l'alcool. Il est autorisé en Europe comme additif alimentaire (E5748).

Tannage Résumé : In order to evaluate the reaction mechanism between Fe2+-gluconic acid compound and collagen, the combination tanning of type-I collagen with Fe2+-gluconic acid compound was studied by UV-Vis spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, circular dichroism, and differential scanning calorimetry. The molar ratio for the reaction between Fe2+ and gluconic acid was 1:3. The resulting increased thermal stability could be attributed to crosslinks formed between the compound and collagen. The tanning trials indicated favorable results. The shrinkage temperature observed was 96°C, with tensile strength of about 239 kg/cm, elongation at break of about 63% and tear strength of about 74 kg/cm. The leather tanned with the Fe2+-gluconic acid compound was lighter in color compared to the single ferrous sulfate (Fe(II)) tanning system, and had neither a darkening of color nor a reduction in strength properties. It was also clear that COD and TS loads were decreased by 26.5% and 29.8%, respectively compared to Fe(II) system, 7.3% and 26.1%, respectively, compared to BCS system. Studies show that the disadvantages connected with Fe(II) tanning system including loss of strength and darkening of color have been solved successfully. HydrolyseIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Denatured Starches I and II were obtained by single-oxidation and double-oxidation of acidic hydrolysing starch. Denature Starch II possessed more carboxyl groups and a smaller particle size than Denatured Starch I. The two denatured starches developed in this research and several typical fillers were applied to chrome-tanned crust leather. The contrasting results of filling showed that Denatured Starch II has some characteristics with obvious differences from other fillings. The leather sample filled with Denatured Starch II showed obvious sample filled with Denatured Starch I showed significant softness, large elongation, and low hypsochromic effects. The leather samples filled with Denatured Starch I and II showed low moisture contents, favourable water vapour permeability, and the morphological characteristics of fibre bundles.
