The aim of this work was to determine the amount of metal ions in leathers dyed with 1:1 metal complex dyes and their extractable amounts by artificial sweat solution. Measurements were done by using inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Total metal loads in leather samples were found between 115 and 1860 (min.-max. in mg/kg). Results in extraction solutions samples were found to be 0 to 6.55 (min.-max. in mg/L). The results obtained from the study were compared with the Oeko-Tex Standard limits and discussed. Peaux brutes -- TrempeIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The soaking process poses the most significant bacterial threat to the raw material amongst all the beamhouse processes. In soaking various bactericides are used in order to avoid possible defects, these chemicals which are lethal to bacteria may also be harmful to the environment and human health. As an alternative to these chemical based bactericides, the possible use of ozone - which is used as an antimicrobial agent in various industries - in the leather industry is investigated. The effect of ozone applications of 5, 10 and 15 minutes per hour were investigated comparing it to the effect of a sodium dimethyl dithiocarbamide based bactericide. 15 minutes of ozone application has been found to be the most effective on bacterial growth prevention. Tannage Résumé : This research was carried out in order to detect and reduce the amount of the tanning material passing from leather into the float during post-tanning processes. In the research, the possibility of reducing the amount of unbound or weakly bound tanning materials, passing from leather into wastewater during post tanning processes, by forming a complex with a second tanning material used in a new float was examined. The feature of mineral tanning materials that enables them to form a complex with vegetable tanning materials was used for this purpose. It was proved that the amount of the mineral tanning material passing into wastewater during post tanning processes was reduced to some extent with vegetable tannin application after mineral main tannage, while the amount of vegetable tanning material passing into wastewater could be reduced in significant amounts of approximately 85% with mineral tanning material application after vegetable tannage.
