This review article focuses on the development of a coatings with improved dirt pickup resistance, with seems to be continues important goal in the coatings industry. The basic demand for this is due to the growth in "softer" elastomeric wall and roof coatings which demands low-VOC formulations and with traditional emulsions it results in tackier coatings due to reduced glass transition temperatures (Tgs). If we consider the current scenario of Asian continent, there are a huge number of high-rise commercial buildings constructions are planned, which is driving the need for coatings that are easier to clean and maintain.
Different processes of emulsion preparation such as post (room temperature) crosslinking and inorganic organic hybrid emulsion, which facilitate the cleaning of coating by water are been discussed. It also draws a brief idea on the possible applications of the same with different paint formulations.
This paper explains the terminology Dirt Pickup Resistance, laboratory test method to measure the same, newer challenges for Paint industry regarding DPUR & how the DPUR fora paint can be improved.Note de contenu : - Mechanism of dirt pickup on latex paint films

Hydrophobically modified alkali soluble polymer emulsions are important class of rheology modifiers for waterborne coatings. Hydrophobically modified water-soluble polymers, used by latex paint manufacturers as associative thickeners, provide significant advantages in improving film build and leveling, and decreasing spatter from roller-applied paints. Preparation method of HASE thickeners contains number of monomers ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, associative macro monomer, crosslinking monomer etc. Rheological behaviour of thickener solution depends on number of factors like molecular weight of polymer chain, amount of crosslinking agent used in polymerisation, acid monomer quantity used, and concentration of associative macro monomer. Generally Redox polymerisation is preferable to achieve higher molecular weight polymer.Note de contenu : - Thickening mechanism
