Despite steady progress, there is still need for improvements. Recent innovations in the area of polymer colloids and hybrid materials offer new opportunities to develop novel coatings for metal protection.
By choosing the appropriate technology, it is possible to design acrylic binders with improved barrier properties, low water uptake, and improved anticorrosion properties. Different methodologies will be discussed, including: designed particle morphology, engineering of the water phase composition, and the use of hybrid binders. Also, a new technology exceeding basic barrier function will be presented. This utilizes a built-in, enhanced corrosion protection mechanism resulting in outstanding performance in salt-spray and early rain resistance.Note de contenu : - Water-based acrylic dispersions : high performance and environmentally friendly.
- Key factors affecting film formation, barrier properties, and anticorrosion performance.
- New approaches to high-performance waterborne acrylic dispersions.
- Designed particle morphology for improved anticorrosion performance.
- Barrier and inhibiting waterborne dispersions
- Dispersions designed for DTM via superior film formation and minimization of water-soluble components.

Revêtements bi-composantIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Low VOC content 2K PUR coatings suffer from slow drying and low film hardness, as they must use low molecular weight polyols. An IPDI-based allophanate hardener was developed to combine the flexibility of HDI allophanates with the fast drying of IPDI-based isocyanates. Combining this with a tailored acrylic polyol gave low VOC coatings with fast drying and good fastness. Note de contenu : - Performance limitations of current high-solids systems

PolyadditionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : An on-line control strategy to produce copolymer latexes with desired adhesive properties (resistance to shear and resistance to peel) has been developed. The strategy required a quantitative model relating adhesive properties and molecular weight distribution that was built using partial least squares regression. The model was used to determine the set-point trajectories of the monomers and chain transfer agent that are used as manipulated variables in the control strategy. The control strategy was experimentally verified to produce an n-butyl acrylate/styrene copolymer latex with a resistance to shear of 1310 s and resistance to peel of 3.1 N/100 mm.
