Many spectacular high-rise construction projects made out of wood ail over the world can be observed, such as the 85m high Wood Hotel in Mjosa (Norway) or the HoHo building in Vienna (Austria). Wood is also high trending especially in luxury interior design in shipbuilding, aerospace and transportation. Its ecological footprint is also driving demand for wood as a building material. Reducing carbon dioxide is becoming increasingly important in almost ail sectors. In this context, wood can help reduce the amount of CO2 emissions generated by a construction project.
Building regulations exist in areas with higher than average fire risk, such as public buildings like airports and train stations, shopping mails, cinemas, theatres, libraries, schools, offices, hotels, hospitals and many others. Wood in exterior applications — whether natural wood, cross laminated timber or other wooden materials — must perform in fire situations and be protected against fire. The use of wood is permitted if the high-performance requirements of the building regulations and other regulatory requirements are met.
Fire-retardant coatings must not only protect against fire, but also preserve the beauty of wood. Visually appealing and reliable fire protection is possible with intumescent coatings, enabling the safe use of wood-based panel products in both interior and exterior situations - from load-bearing structures to interior trim and exterior cladding.Note de contenu : - Why wood needs a flame-retarfant treatment ?
