Ultimately, the biodegraded paint cannot be used by consumer, nor it will be useful to manufacturer This creates dissatisfaction to both. However, well formulated product can be used for better performance, for which little extra efforts and precautions are required by the manufacturer. The selection of raw materials, good practices of manufacturing, packing precautions will protect the paint in liquid and dry film stage. There are many conventional ways to eliminate from them like adsorption and incineration, but these methods just transfer the pollutant from one phase to another, hence permanent disposal is still a problem. A new developing technology, based principally on semiconductor material irradiated by light of suitable energy are used. Among them TiO2 Photocatalysis process have received large attention these days, which is much cheaper, the reaction is quite fast and no side reactions are produced. TiO2 is either suspended or supported on inert surface, but recently Kon Corporation has developed TiO2 solution which can be coated like film. TiO2 photocatalysis is nowadays usedfor various activities like Anti-fogging effect, Water treatment, Self-cleaning effect, Air-cleaning effect and Anti-bacterial effect. The commercial success of TiO2 photocatalysis has made the paint industries to upgrade itself from a polluter industry to a pollution preventing industry. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Acrylic polyols with different hydroxyl value were synthesized by solution and suspension polymerization techniques by using butyl acrylate (BA), methyl methacrylate (MMA), styrene and hydroxy ethyl methacrylate (HEMA). These polyols were crosslinked with butoxy methyl-melamine in presence of acid catalyst.
The practical performance properties of crosslinked acrylic melamine coatings were evaluated. The mechanical properties, tensile properties, water vapor permeability, corrosion and chemical resistance properties have been studied. The results indicated increased crosslinking and glass transition temperature (Tg) with the increase of hydroxyl number in the polyols.
