Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Scientists are increasingly looking towards nature to provide the key to solvingsome of our technological problems, leading to a newly emerging science termed 'Biomimetics'. Paint technolbgists too are refocusing on natural biological systems to borrow principles and mechanisms from nature and transferring these to conventional paint systems leading to innovative Biomimetic coatings. These coatings mimic the physical, chemical or physiological characteristics of biological systems. Such paints would behave like the natural component when exposed to the same environmental challenges and would have improved performance or novel properties for future industry needs that are not possible with conventional paint systems alone. Biomimetic coatings represent one of the latest developments in paint technology and promises to be an interesting field of study. Note de contenu : - Science of biomimetic coatings

Titre : High performance acrylic resin based on hybrid chemistry for 2k polyurethane coating system Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Pratik N. Mehta, Auteur Année de publication : 2003 Article en page(s) : p. 41-56 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Hybridisation technique offers the advantage of each component, used for hybridisation, contributing its individual benefit to the overall system. The present work is focussed on use of hybrid chemistry in development of resins for improved performance. Silicones exhibit excellent weatherability because of its strong chemical bond and hydrophobic properties. Here a silicon-carbon hybrid chemistry is applied to develop siloxane modified acrylic resins for 2K polyurethane coating system. Acrylic resins were developed with built- in siloxane linkages, which are introduced by hybridizing acrylic polymer with polysiloxanes. Resins were characterised and evaluated in 2K polyurethane system as against conventional acrylic resin. Biuert type polyisocyanate is used as a crosslinker. Effect ofsiloxane content of resin and its correlation to various coating parameters were studied. Remarkable improvement in gloss retention, Tensile strength, % elongation and adhesion on different substrates without affecting the other properties was seen. Note de contenu : - Silicones

Titre : 100% solids polyurethane coating : A review Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : S. M. Naik, Auteur ; D. V. Tanna, Auteur Année de publication : 2003 Article en page(s) : p. 57-70 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The upsurge in industrial activities due to economic liberalisation has intensified the demand for high performance coatings during the last decade. The conventional high performance coatings, which were catering to the requirements of projects and maintenance segments, so far, were not in a position to fulfill the growing expectations of customers with respect to application, performance, service life and cost. The 100% solid polyurethane has gained considerable interest in the industry and is being specified and used extensively for diverse applications. Apart from environmental friendliness, the main advantages of solventless polyurethanes over solventless epoxies are their outstanding abrasion and impact resistance, coupled with significantly higher flexibility. This article will cover the current status of development in the 100 % solids polyurethane coating and important issues related to application of the coating. Note de contenu : - Chemistry of polyurethane
- Technological advancement in formulating techniques
- Properties of 100% solid polyurethane coating
- Application of 100% polyurethane coatings
- Recommended uses of 100% solids polyurethane coatings
