Titre : Formulating radiation cure coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : S. C. Jain, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 37-50 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Radiation cure coatings are reactive, low-viscosity and usually solvent-free, coating compositions that can be applied to a substrate by any of the conventional application methods such as spray, roller coating, screen, litho, flexo and even gravure and then polymerised or cured by exposure to a high-energy radiation such as ultraviolet or an electron beam. A radiation cure formulation is a blend of a number of chemical components designed to meet the properties required by the curing method and the desired finished product properties. The radiation curing materials may be formulated into inks, coatings and adhesives etc. Ultra violet (UV) lights is part of the optical region of the electro-magnetic spectrum and falls between the 200 and 400 nanometer wavelength. The energy sources for UV cure are medium pressure mercury lamps, pulsed xenon lamps, electrode less vapour lamps or laser. The UV radiations are focused on the substrate by reflectors housed in the lamp. The electron source for EB curing is generally a filament that is heated inside a vacuum tube. High voltage electron beam accelerators are used to generate the electron stream for electron beam curing. Accelerated electrons are focused by an optical system. The cured films exhibit excellent hardness, mar resistance and chemical resistance. Presently ultraviolet radiation curing is the dominant curing system, the electron beam curing has a minor share of around 15% of the total radiation cure coatings market. Titre : A comparative study of waterborne epoxy-acrylic graft copolymer dispersion based coatings and solvent based coatings for can coating applications Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Randhir Parmar, Auteur ; Ashok Dighe, Auteur ; Niranjan V. Patel, Auteur ; Jayant S. Parmar, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 51-64 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Epoxy-Acrylic Graft copolymer Dispersions (EAGDs) were prepared from various grades of Epoxies by grafting Acrylic monomers on it including methacrylic acid to render water compatibility after neutralisation with tertiaryamine. The waterborne can coating compositions were prepared by varying the type ofEAGDs and amount of curing agent, hexamethoxy methyl melamine (HMMM). These compositions were evaluated for their various physico-chemical characteristics and film properties after curing at 200°C for 15 minutes. The conventional Epoxy-phenolic solvent based can coating compositions were also similarly characterised for their performance properties and for the comparison purpose. The study revealed the excellent performance of certain EAGD based waterborne coatings compared to the conventional solvent based can coatings.
