All of this is highly commendable, but it may mean that the less rewarding aspects of energy saving have been given the higher priority.
To explain such a statement, let us look at an extract from a standard set of steam tables. In the past, engineers have carefully added measured quantities of energy to measured quantities of water, and the steam tables record the results. Since the world is a consistent place, we always find that if we were the stard with 1 kg 419 kJ. The water temperature would rise to 100°C. Adding a further 2257 kJ would just boil off the whole of the kilogram, and 1 kg of steam at atmospheric pressure would result. The steam tables can be displayed graphically, as shown in Fig. 1 .
But the table, and Fig. 1, and commonsense, show that if the steam is produced and used at an elevated temperature and pressure then when we encourage the water , under pressure, and containing between 25 and 30% of the energy which was added at such expense in spill out from the steam traps to waste, then equally losses, the gains of 1 or 2% efficiency in the boiler house, although important in themsleves, are seen in their true perspective.Note de contenu : - Evaluation of steam leaks
