Résumé : |
This work was initiated to study the physico-chemical and biological conditions of the tannery effluent and their influence on the east Calcutta wetland ecosystem. Temperature, DO, BOD, COD, TDS, TSS, Conductivity, Total hardness, Chloride content, pH, Phosphates, Nitrates, Acidity and Alkalinity were recorded from four different spots on the sewage carrying canals in the eastern Calcutta (Lat. 22o33’-22o40’ N; long. 88o25’-88o 35’ E). Concentrations of heavy metals as Pb, Cu, Cr, Zn, Fe and Mn in tannery wastewater's and tannery sludge were also determined. Accumulation of these metals in different plant parts and fish organs were also studied. East Calcutta wetland ecosystem exhibited significant ameliorative role in waste stabilization and managing hazardous pollutants. |
