Résumé : |
Three important process parameters, namely, degree of neutralization, intensity of acidification towards the end of fatliquoring, and the degree of exposure to sunlight during drying have been studied to assess their influence on the Cr(VI) level detected in leather. Wet-blue cow-hide pieces have therefore been neutralized to different extent by using sodium bicarbonate, fatliquored, and acidified to different pH values ranging from 3.5 to 7.3, and dried under varying conditions. While some of the leather pieces have been dried in direct sunlight, others have been dried either in diffuse sunlight or in the dark. The Cr(VI) levels in all these leathers have been determined spectrophotometrically. The results clearly indicate that all three parameters studied here strongly influence the Cr(VI) level detected in leather. |
