However, they have been scarcely studied. Therefore, the goal of this work was to prepare and evaluate various properties of HAAR. These materials were obtained by miniemulsion polymerization from a hyperbranched alkyd resin (HAR), methyl methacrylate (MMA), butyl acrylate (BA), and acrylic acid (AA). The proportions of HAR:acrylic monomers were as follow: 50:50 (HAAR1), 40:60 (HAAR2), 30:70 (HAAR3), and 20:80 (HAAR4). The particle size increased with the content of HAR, but the colloidal stability, critical deformation, zeta potential, thermal stability, and hardness followed an opposite behavior. The order of colloidal stability of the HAAR miniemulsions was HAAR4 > HAAR3 > HAAR2 > HAAR1. The particle morphology of the HAAR was mainly core–shell, but acrylic and alkyd particles were also observed. In addition, all HAAR initially exhibited a reduction in complex viscosity (η*) with the increase in angular frequency. The thermal stability of the HAR was lower than that of the HAAR. The HAAR showed better resistance against a 0.10 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution than HAR. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Synthesis of the HAAR - Characterization

Polymères ramifiésIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this work a hyperbranched alkyd resin (HBAR) was synthesized from a hyperbranched polyester polyol of fourth-generation (HBP4) and tall oil fatty acids. Furthermore, the HBAR was modified with several proportions (10, 20, 30, and 40 wt%) of maleic anhydride (MA) to obtain maleinized HBAR (HBARMAs). The structural, thermal, rheological, and film properties of the HBAR and HBARMAs were evaluated for the purpose of estimating the effect of MA content on the properties of the HBARMAs. HBARMAs exhibited hydroxyl values inferior to that of the HBAR and it decreased with the MA content. Infrared and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) analyses provided evidence of the formation of the HBAR and HBARMA. The number average molar mass () of the HBP4 was lower than that of the HBAR, but those of the HBARMAs were higher. Using dynamic light scattering analysis, it was observed that HBAR exhibited smaller hydrodynamic dimensions than HBARMAs. The glass transition temperature (Tg), onset decomposition temperature (Tonset), and viscosity (η) values of the HBARMAs increased with the MA content and it was higher than those of the HBAR. However, the drying time exhibited the opposite behavior. Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Synthesis of HBAR - Synthesis of the HBARMAs - Characterizations of the materials
