Résumé : |
A technical process which offers the possibility of fat-liquoring the skins with auxiliary cationic fats combined with sulphonyl-chlorides without preliminary neutralization regardless of type of retan is described.
The process giving the best results, from an industrial point of view, consists of retanning with mixtures of synthetic tannins and chrome, followed by cationic fat-liquoring and dyeing. This process has been tested for more than three yeaf in many Italian tanneries and the leathers are of a very high quality. It is possible, by varying the quantities of the products and their ratios, to obtain a series of articles characterized by softness, roundness and feel.
Full grain and buffed upholstery leather has been made using normal drying and wet toggling systems. Shoe and garment leather with extraordinary softness and roundness and low specific gravity has been obtained. This work outlines application of cationic fat-liquoring in leather processing, and examines the reactivity of leather as a function of the acidity of the bath and also of the different types of retans used. The fat content of the leather is compared to the exhaustion of the bath as influenced by the various retans and acidity, and is related to the water absorbancy of the finished leather. The characteristics of the leather obtained from this system compare well with those of the best commercial system. |
