Résumé :	The reasons for undertaking this detailed study of elastic fibers in lambskins and calfskins are : the contradictory information in the literature ; the underesti-mation of the effects of elastin on leather quality ; and a desire to take advantage of new technology and new enzyme preparations. Many authors have discussed elastic fibers and the changes it undergoes during processing : Rosenthal, Seymour-Jones, Wilson, Moeller, Compte, Bogaert, Pickard, Stirtz, and Urbaniak.
