Résumé : |
The unique fiber structure of buffalo bides as distinct from those of other cattle hides envisages a different sampling position. The problem was posed by the International Standards Organization to arrive at the proper sampling position based on Indian buffalo hides, India being the major producer of buffalo bides. Buffalo bides were collected from different regions of India and tanned by the conventional vegetable tanning system, the leathers sampled from different locations, and the test specimens thus obtained suhjected to physical testing and chemical analysis. The data were statistically analyzed and the position recording the maximum number of least standard deviations was adjudged as the best sampling position. The conclusion is that the location at 240 mm. from the line of backbone at the area of the butt and 100 mm. from the root of the tail (each multiplied by the correction factor, which is the ratio of the length in mm. of the individual hide to 1750 mm., the average length of Indian huffalo hides) is suitable for carrying out both physical testing and chemical analysis. |
