A glycoprotein was isolated from young albino rat skins by extraction of the minced skins with ten percent sodium chloride solution, precipi-tation with ammonium sulfate, and chromatography on Sephadex G-100 and DEAE-cellulose. The molecular weight of the glycoprotein was of the order of 65,000 as determined hy gel filtration. Its carhohydrate moiety was found to he composed of galactose, mannose, glucose, fucose, N-acetylglucosamine, and sialic acids. The glycoprotein lacked hydroxyproline, which suggests that it is noncollagenous in nature. |
