Résumé : |
The demand for pleatable media for automotive and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) applications is growing consistently. Concerning pleatable filter media, a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 5.5% is forecasted for the global market. The field of pleatable filter media is dominated by glass fiber paper. These, however, are susceptible to moisture and the formation of harmful fibrous airborne matter by ways of so-called "shedding". Synthetic materials do not have these disadvantages but show inferior pleating properties on rotary pleating machines when compared to glass fiber paper.
According to the current state of knowledge there is no suitable method to test the pleatability of such media. The crease recovery angle (CRA) as described in DIN 53890/ DIN EN 22313 standards, is unsuitable for quantitative assessment. In contrast to the CRA — which involves a quasi-static deformation — the rotary pleating process is characterized by dynamic deformation. A deformation under high strain rate often exhibits a different stress/strain behavior. For example, the yield strength increases as the strain rate increases. Therefore, a suitable methodology is required to characterize the pleatability of a medium in a rotary pleating process. |
