Résumé : |
Water-based polymer dispersions, or polymer latexes, can be used as a pressuresensitive adhesive (PSA) to manufacture labels and stickers. A label typically has several layers, as displayed in Figure 1. A topcoat for protection, a facestock with a printed image or text, the PSA, and a liner containing a release coating to remove it before use easily. |

- Fig. 1 : Schematic drawing of the typical layers that make up a label
- Fig. 2 : The chemical structures of common monomers used in the synthesis of acrylic-based PSAs by emulsion polymerisation
- Fig. 3 : Conceptual schematics of linerless adhesive labels. From top to bottom : A moisture activatable adhesive stamp, where a hard polymer film (blue) becomes the adhesive upon contact with water
- Fig. 4 : Our approach to a linerless mesh-reinforced adhesive label made from mixtures of hard and soft polymer colloids
- Fig. 5 : Our stick-on-demand mesh-reinforced PSA label is non-stick at ambient temperatures (excellent blocking resistance)
- Fig. 6 : Structure of the polystyrene supporting mesh in which our PSA is embedded. For this image, a model poly(vinyl acetate) soft latex was used and etched out selectively |
