In this study, we have targeted to improve the cleanability of coating as well as the systemization of coating from 2K to 1K. Thermosetting acrylic resin was prepared by using carboxyl acid and hydroxyl group containing monomers, modified with siloxane acrylate which is later cross-linked with highly methylated monomeric melamine cross-linker by catalysing the same with acid catalyst. Grafting of polymers was con firmed by FTIR analysis. The differential scanning calorimetry revealed the glass transition temperature. The synthesized copolymer was applied on metal substrate and the coating characterization viz. surface energy and contact angle is tested by Goniometer. The easy to clean effect was studied by permanent marker. Static water contact angle and contact angle hysteresis measurements proved the formation of hydrophobic surfaces. Samples displayed static water contact angle 99.8°. Increasing the melamine formaldehyde and acid catalyst percentage by keeping the hydroxyl value and siloxane content same showed better easy to clean property by increasing only siloxane content. |
