Résumé : |
Public sewage treatment authorities are often bath to accept tannery effluents because they are apprehensive either about the effects of specific components, e.g. heavy metals and sulphides on their processes, or of the high COD to BOD ratios which have been cited as indicating non-biodegradability. Real resistance to treatability is even more relevant to onsite biological treatment by the tannery.
The work described below was undertaken to investigate both of these aspects. Laboratory trials were carried out, using various techniques, to examine the inherent treatability of a number of tanning materials, dyestuffs and other chemicals widely used in tannery processes. Later, one of the techniques was employed in a study of the treatment of a mixed effluent, the work subsequently being extended to pilot plant operation in a tannery. |
