Résumé : |
Humanity's damaging impact on nature is worse than ever and this needs to be recovered from being a disruptive event with sustainable solutions. With scientific knowledge and effort, ecological resilience must be rebuilt. This study is mainly aimed at developing a novel approach to help in both solving the ecosystem problem and providing sustainable raw materials. As is well-described in the literature, the pufferfish (balloon fish) is the one of the most dangerous predators in Earth's ecosystem. Pufferfish are very harmful to human health as well as damaging fishing equipment and other fish species. It causes serious damage to both ecology and the economy. One scientific way of solving such problems is to keep the population of the invasive species under control. It is therefore suggested that we should make the fishing of pufferfish attractive, which means the population of this species cannot grow out of proportion. There are recent researches on the use of pufferfish venom and poison in the pharmaceutical industry. ln this research paper, we aim to add economic value to the wasted pufferfish skin with a novel tanning method. Converting this natural predator fish into a value-added resource will increase its attraction to fishermen, which will thus act as an ecological control system. The effect of different tanning systems on pufferfish skin and the development of sustainable pufferfish leathers (PFL) are investigated. With the identification of their physical properties, the skin structures were subjected to various tests such as mechanical, thermal and sound absorption properties. The developed PFL leathers were also compared with a well-known exotic leather, ostrich and the most-used type of traditional lambskin leather. |
