The fracture strength of thin leather is an important indicator of the longevity of leather for apparel. The same cattle leather was cut into 6 thicknesses and waterborne PU (WPU) modified with 4 mass fractions of Si02 was then applied on the leather for tensile comparison. The results showed that the fracture strength of cattle leather differed significantly between the transverse and longitudinal directions. The fracture strength of the cattle leather was greater in the transverse direction than in the longitudinal when the thickness was less than 0.65mm, the longitudinal fracture strength is greater the transverse strength when the thickness is between 0.65mm and 0.8mm,and the transverse strength was greater than the longitudinal strength is thicker than 0.8mm.
The effect of the different mass fractions of Si02 modified WPU coating on the fracture strength did not show any significant difference. The regression equation of the effect of thickness and mass fraction of Si02 in modified WPU on the fracture strength of cattle leather was established based on the principle of least squares and surface plots were made. It was found that thickness had a greater influence on the fracture strength of cattle leather than coating modification. |
