Emulsion polymer is one of the important components of water based paints which provides mechanical, chemical and durability properties to it. This article provides a general overview on the emulsion polymers, techniques to prepare and their end applications. An introduction to the basic concepts of emulsion polymers was discussed, followed by a description of the various production processes and characterization methods. The classes of emulsion polymers were surveyed, and the commercial technologies and potential future uses discussed. The main objective of this review article is to describe the use of latex coatings and their futuristic technologies for the development of next generation waterbased coatings. |
