DTM epoxy and acrylic coatings have provided this balance for railcar owners for many years.
However, owners more concerned with the long-term aesthetics of their railcars typically require a multi-coat epoxy/PUR systems for the added UV resistance provided by the PUR topcoat. These multicoat systems can now be replaced with a DTM PAS coating system to reduce cost and improve productivity without having to sacrifice the long-term performance.
This study documented the 15yr field performance of DTM PAS coatings versus an epoxy/PUR system. Both coatings systems have performed exceptionally well, exhibiting less than 0.1% rusting and are expected to last a total life cycle of 20-25yr before repainting. DTM PAS provides the required long-term performance af a two-coat system at a lower total applied cost. Compared to DTM epoxies and acrylics, DTM PAS is expected to provide 2-2.5x the coating life, which could remove two full painting cycles. Railcar owners will need to balance the removal of painting cycles versus the increased material cost of DTM PAS versus epoxies and acrylics.Note de contenu : - DTM pas railcar case study
