Résumé : |
The lecture emphasizes the need to carefully consider local conditions before applying traditional methods of processing hides. Modifications of these methods often lead to unnecessary elaborations with consequent increase in intricacy, cost, and complications with effluents. Careful consideration of the basic problem and parameters may lead to much simpler solutions. Two examples are given to illustrate this point. The first case concerns the development of a "no-soak" depilating system fo rsalted hides, wherein use is made of the salt present to control swelling ; and the second case involves in a chrome tanning that uses a minimum amount of chrome salt but obtains 98 percent uptake. |
