In this study, literature data were compiled in order to show, which preservatives are problematic for sensitive or irritated skin. Therefore, data of preservatives, which are listed in annex V of the European Cosmetic Directive (EU KVO) and data of non-listed preservatives were compared with each other. As a result of the comparison, preservatives listed in annex V cannot be generally claimed to be better or less suitable for the concept. Factors as solubility of preservatives, the optimal pH range and compatibility with other ingredients of the formulation are important.
As result of the study and guideline for product development of personal care products for sensitive skin possible combinations of preservatives and multi-functional ingredients as well as practical formulations are shown.Note de contenu : - BASICS OF PRESERVATION
