PerméabilitéIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : We have constructed a model of air permeability taking into account appropriate parameters. Two of the parameters which represent the capillary radius and the amount of capillaries in a definite area of leather, respectively r and n have been deduced.
Researches on the locational differences in air permeability based on the model, show that different locations of leather have different values for r and n. The capillary radius of samples near the head location ranges from 452.9nm to 479.1nm, while the quantity of capillaries in the same sample is the greatest, from 7.948 x 1011/m2 to 8.617 x 1011/m2. The capillary radius (r) of a sample from a near centre location is the largest at 581.0nm and the capillary amount (n) is the lowest at only 5.262 x 1011/m2. The capillary radii of samples near the tail and centre of the leather are about 530nm.
Neither the thickness nor aperture ratio can successfully represent the air permeability of leathers. The air permeability process is rather complex. Using only the capillary radius (r) or the quantity of capillaries in a definite area (n) does not allow us to express the air permeability adequately.Note de contenu : - Foundation of the air permeability model and the deduction of parameters

Cuirs et peaux -- Effets de la transpiration
Cuirs et peaux de bovinsIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Various samples, including untanned, chrome tanned, glutaraldehyde tanned and formaldehyde tanned cattlehide collagen fibres, were prepared and treated in artificial perspiration. Preliminary studies on their dry heat shrinkage and thermal degradation behaviours were completed followed by study of changes in thermal behaviours due to the perspiration exposure. The mechanism of these changes is discussed. The influence of perspiration on the water vapour permeability and the hydrothermal stability of the crust leathers are also discussed. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Chrome tanned cattlehide collagen fibers were retanned and fatliquored by different chemicals. The samples were immersed in artificial sweat for 3 to 15 days. The sweat-soaked collagen fibers were then heated in air. The shrinkage temperature (Ts) and shrinkage ratio were recorded to characterize the thermal stability of the collagen fiber samples. It was found that the shrinkage ratio decreased after the processes of retanning and fatliquoring. After sweat-soaking treatment, the shrinkage temperature of the retanned and fatliquored collagen fibers was decreased and shrinkage ratio was increased, indicating an impaired thermal stability. The Ts decreased with the increase of the sweat soaking time. The chrome retanning liquor and GTA retanned collagen fibers exhibit slow decrease of shrinkage temperature with the increase of sweat-soaking time, showing great resistance to sweat. Compared with that fatliquored by other fatliquoring agents studied, collagen fibers fatliquored by neats- foot oil has better sweat-resistant property. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In this paper, samples of un-tanned cattlehide collagen fibers, chrome tanned cattlehide collagen fibers, and glutaraldehyde tanned cattlehide collagen fibers are prepared and preliminary studies of their thermal degradation behavior completed. The methods of both Flynn-Wall-Ozawa and SatavaŠesták, which have been being widely and successfully used in the study of thermal degradation kinetics of synthetic polymers, are used to process the data obtained from thermo-gravimetric analysis of the three samples at different heating rates. The results obtained indicate that the thermal degradation activation energy of un-tanned cattlehide collagen fibers is 130-160 kJ/mol. After tanning with chrome, it can reach 225-255 kJ/mol. However, in the case of a sample tanned with glutaraldehyde, its thermal degradation activation energy is only 120-163 kJ/mol, very close to the value of un-tanned cattlehide collagen fibers. The results suggest that the crosslink bonds between collagen molecules formed in the chrome tanning process are much more stable at high temperature than those formed in the glutaraldehyde tanning process.
