The high performance characteristics of polyurethanes, together with their adaptability and versatility, have enabled them to be used in a variety of coating applications. These applications can range from textile coatings to roof coatings, from high gloss automotive paints and lacquers to print-receptive coatings for films. Polyurethane systems can be one- or two-component, solvent free, solventborne or waterborrne.
With increased legislation and awareness of environmental issues, solvent-based systems are becoming less desirable, and water-based technology has come to the fore. Waterbased polyurethane dispersions (PUD's) are now widely used in such areas as plastic coatings in OEM interiors, print receptive coatings, lacquers for wood and protective topcoats. PUD's can offer a non-hazardous, tough protective coating but do not always match the performance of solvent-based two-component systems.Note de contenu : - It takes two
