South Africa, has, since the arrival of the settlers in the Cape in 1820 seen gradual but consistent industrial development. The coatings industy has also mirrored the strides in industrial coatings sector can now boast to have attained the level of sophistication of the developed first world countries. The coil coatings sector was established in South Africa in the late '70s but it remained entrenched in traditional epoxy, silicone modified polyesters and PVDF technologies for more than three decades. However, the focus of the industry on life cycle costing coupled with drastic paint failures is forcing a shift in the coil coatings industry.
