Résumé : |
The author discusses the development of zinc thermal diffusion (ZTD) and its role in the latest anti-corrosion technology.
In its simplest terms, corrosion is the result of a man-made material, such as a metal interacting with its environnent, often in a chemical or electrochemical reaction with an oxidant. The result can be unsightly and problematic, or even catastrophic. It can also be extremely costly. Worldwide, the direct and indirect costs of corrosion have been estimated by NAGE to be more than 3% of the global GDP. Corrosion adds significant cost burdens to business and industry for additional maintenance, repair, replacement, loss of service and more.
A great many products and applications are impacted by corrosion and, consequently, many different anti-corrosion methods and treatments have been developed and used over time, with differing levels of success. Corrosion protection has included organic/inorganic barrier coatings, barrier and sacrificial metallic-based coatings and even electronic systems that counter the intrinsic electric potential between metal parts and their service surroundings. Electroplating, hot-dip, metal flake and Sherardising are some of the familiar anti-corrosion treatments that have been applied for many years. |
