The author writes on the latest thinking on advanced control systems for powder coating lines.
Powder coatings manufacturers have used the same manufacturing techniques for the last 40 years and although a few novel processes have been tried they have never really taken off or proved to be any better than the traditional method of premixer feeder, extruder, chill roll conveyor and final grinding. That does not mean to say this is the only way to make acceptable powder and that it will never change.
These methods are however the current industry standards and most practical method of manufacture. Having said this we need to look at wheter or not the best practice and systems are being used in these areas. We need to see whether or not we can improve what we have with the ultimate aim being to improve the saleability of the product for the manufacturer and the end product powder quality for the applicators.
One area where both improvements in quality and repeatability of product can be gained is in the more careful control and monitoring of the physical control of the equipment being used for the manufacture. If we look at each stage of the process in turn we can see where improvements can be made. |
