From overcoming the challenges presented by the Biocide Products Directive to conquering bacterial hygiene issues and meeting the demands of an educated consumer, the coatings market is filled with opportunities and innovations for future products and applications. Face with and escalating regulatory climate, the ever-present threat of bacterial hygiene challenges and a generation of more savvy consumers, the international coatings industry may well be on the brink of one of its most challenging eras. The European Unions (EU) Biocide Products Directive (BPD) alone has the potential to vastly and irrevocably alter the industry's current landscape by presenting unprecedented reformulation challenges. This, coupled with tough bacterial hygiene issues such as biocide resistance and tolerance, and more sophisticated consumer demands, such as those for antimicrobial paints, has created a climate of change and uncertainty. One constant, however, will be the need for innovative products and their creative application. |
