This article examines the demands of measuring flow properties of powder coatings.
Careful manipulation of the flow properties of powder coatings is essential for optimisation of the application process. Formulators therefore need access to data that accurately reflect the behaviour of a powder during application. The highly differentiating nature of powder rheometers makes them ideally suited for characterising aerated samples, which are of particular relevance to this application. Their use enables formulators to develop products that meet targets both for coating quality and the ease of application. Further down the line, they have a growing role in QC to verify that these acceptable flow properties are being maintained. |
