The expression of individuality against a more stereotyped lifestyle can be seen in the increasing use of leathers in artwork. This is illustrated in the carving and tooling of leathers used across a Ovide range of leathergoods and is not limited pither by dut style of the artwork or the final use of the article. This might range from the purely decorative works of art to enhancement of everyday goods such as belts and bags. Examples of the tooling of leathers have been found in the Middle East dating from around four thousand years ago when it was widely used in decorative battle saddles, shields and leather helmets. |
