An important component of the issue concerns the occurrence and relative abundance of micro-plastic particles. In this context cosmetic products are mentioned as one of the primary sources of microplastic, although there is increasing scientific evidence that now suggests that the relative fraction of the contribution from cosmetic products is quantitatively small. Nonetheless, the cosmetics industry faces this issue, and the manufacturers of the cosmetic products concerned are endeavouring to minimise the discharge of plastic particles into the environment.
