Résumé : |
The natural thickness of leather varies depending on the animal type, age, gender reproductive status, geographical location, breed and diet. Even in one species the natural hide/skin thickness will vary considerably. Another point to bear in mind is that the final thickness of the leather is very seldom the same as the starting thickness of the raw animal hide and skin. The operations that ensure that the final leather is the same and consistent in thickness are collectively known as the thinning operations, with the two principle mechanisms being the splitting and shaving. |
