Résumé : |
Experiments using hide powder and hide samples were carried out to study the diffusion and fixation stages of vegetable tanning. The tannin offer and kinetic conditions were varied. The tannin offer and kinetic conditions were varied. The tannin content was determined by the following methods : (a) near infrared range spectroscopy (NIR), for analysis of leather and residual bath ; (b) determination of tannin content by difference of solids content in residual bathbefore and after tanning. This work demonstrates that the NIR spectroscopy is acceptable for carrying out analyses of leather in an efficient way by enabling the accomplishment of multiple measurements both on the surface and within the leather cross-section. The tanning of hide powder was completed in 120 minutes, while the diffusion through the hide thickness and fixation takes 24 hours to be completed. The amount of vegetable tannin to apply is between 74 and 106 % in terms of tan content. |
