Résumé : |
Photochromic materials have a variety of functional and fashionable applications. So far there are no reports of attempts to produce photochromic leather that can change color after exposure to daylight or UV irradiation. In this paper, the application of a specifically-synthesized photochromic acid dye is reported used for the direct coloration of leather, in terms of dyeing, printing and surface coating. The leather obtained successfully changed color under UV irradiation and thus has the potential to be used as fashionable gloving, garment or special types of upper leather and for a variety of other applications in leather and allied industries. A study is reported of the color build up after UV irradiation or sunlight exposure on the photochromic leather, evaluated using color measurement techniques, in relation to a range of processing factors. Wash fastness and photo-stability properties of the photochromic leather were evaluated using specially developed techniques. |
