The models investigated include the Berns and Petersen method, the modified Berns and Petersen method, the Reniff method, the Rich and Martin method and the R-model developed by Chung et al. In the paper, the Reniff method and the R-model were extended, and all the models were then evaluated using sample sets with different substrates. It was found that the extended Reniff method gave the best training performance and the worst testing performance. The Rich and Martin model, the three-term Chung model and the Berns and Petersen models, all with wavelength-dependent coefficients, gave better testing performance. vision des couleursIndex. décimale : 535.6 Couleur Résumé : An experiment was carried out to evaluate the change of colour appearance of samples under a reference illuminant and four light-emitting diode light sources. The results were used to evaluate the present CIE colour rendering index and other calculation methods. It was found that the present colour rendering index did not predict the visual data accurately. An index based on CAM02-UCS embedded with a reliable chromatic adaptation transform and a uniform colour space gave the best performance. The effect of glint impression has significant dependency on the viewing geometry. In this work, three psychophysical experiments were carried out, including diffuse coarseness assessment, glint impression assessment, and finding dimensions of glint space. In the experiments, one geometry for diffuse coarseness and three geometries for glint impression were designed. The three viewing geometries were designed according to a commercial device, BYK-mac, so that the results were used to test the reliability of instrumental measurements. Based on the conclusions drawn from the psychophysical experiments, a further investigation on glint space was conducted using the multidimensional scaling technique. From the visual results, two dimensions, corresponding to two attributes, were extracted and were validated by the instrumental results. Bidirectional reflectance distribution function data were also adopted from another commercial device, Imaging Sphere from Radiant Vision Systems Inc., USA (originally RadiantZemax Inc.), to predict glint impression. Some promising results were obtained. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Samples - Observers - Viewing conditions - Psychophysical techniques

vision des couleursIndex. décimale : 778.6 Photographie en couleur Résumé : Characterisation targets usually include a set of physical coloured samples. A characterisation model can be derived between the colorimetric values (tristimulus values) and camera responses (RGB values) taken from an imaging device such as a digital camera capturing the colours in the target. The performance of such a model is highly dependent upon the number of colours and the colour region in the characterisation target. An ideal characterisation target should provide accurate model prediction without requiring too many samples. In this paper, a computational method is presented for colour selections to train a camera characterisation model based on a fourth-order polynomial model including 35 terms. Compared with other available methods, the newly developed method performed better. It is proposed that this method be applied to generate generic targets in terms of colorimetric values. These targets should work reasonably well for a wide range of materials. Note de contenu : - CAMERA CHARACTERISATION MODEL

Fonction de pondérationIndex. décimale : 535.6 Couleur Résumé : We have used 13 experimental datasets (7420 colour pairs) to study the performance of the weighting function for lightness proposed by the CIEDE2000 colour-difference formula, because it has been suggested that this function can be improved by using the weighting function for lightness SL = 1 adopted by the CIE94 colour-difference formula. Using the standardised residual sum of squares (STRESS) index, it was found that: (i) replacing the SL in CIEDE2000 with SL = 1 improved the results for 7/13 datasets considered, but the improvement was statistically significant only for 1/13 datasets; (ii) a Whittle-type lightness-difference formula can be used to replace the term ?L*/SL in CIEDE2000, which led to a new colour-difference formula with no statistically significant difference with respect to CIEDE2000 for any of the 13 experimental datasets. A modification of the CIEDE2000 formula using a Whittle-type lightness formula is proposed. Note de contenu : - Influence of the four constants in the Sl function of CIEDE2000
