Revêtements -- DétériorationIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A series of coil coatings based on a polyester/melamine resin formulation, incorporating different pigment systems, were naturally weathered after being exposed to the elements in Hainan, PRC, for 2 years. The surface chemistry and morphology, before and after weathering, was investigated using both traditional (i.e., gloss retention, color change) and novel (i.e., X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy [XPS], atomic force microscopy [AFM], and scanning electron microscopy [SEM]) methods. Chemical changes occurring in the coating bulk were investigated using step-scan photoacoustic Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (SSPA-FTIR). It was found that the coating surface morphology, surface chemistry, and bulk chemistry, both before and after weathering, were all affected by the type and concentration of the pigments included in the coating formulation. Moreover, it was found that different types of pigment catalyze different coating degradation mechanisms. RhéologieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : End customers' decisions are ultimately determined by quality and high demand for excellent visual appearance. The new surface additives improve processing and visuel appearance significantly. In solvent-based can and coil coatings, such specially developed polyacrylates provide excellent appearance. The products' composition and their far-reaching listings and registration leads to universal application. Recoatability is excellent, due to the fact that they do not impair the surface energy of cured films. Both new additives fulfill 21 CFR FDA regulations 175.300 and all components are listed in Annex 6 in the lists for evaluated (A) or not evaluated (B) substances according to Swiss Ordinance (SR 817.023.21).
- The new flow additive shows a broad compatibility with all binders and high optical transparency.
- The new flow additive provides flow improvement as well as an additional deaerating effect.
- Both products are free of hazardous ingredients like BPA, aromatics and halogens.
The excellent optical appearance attracts can and coil coating customers worldwideNote de contenu : - Increasing quality demands for coil coatings

ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Coil coating pre-coated metal, is a growing coating technology due to its economic and sustainable advantages. The coating not only needs to be flexible enough so that it can be post-formed, but also give hardness, weather resistance, corrosion protection and be decorative. Polyesters are the workhorse resin for coil coatings and offer an economical coating with a very good performance balance overall, but the level of performance also depends on the monomer composition used. BEPD is an attractive choice here for achieving high quality polyesters due to its neo-structure and large bulky side-groups. The absence of 13hydrogens improves the stability of the polyester when exposed to environmental factors and it also improves the thermal stability. Bulky side-groups protect the ester bonds against hydrolysis, break the crystallinity tendency without sacrificing the performance, introduce flexibility and give some lower viscosity to the coatings. The bulky side-groups do not give any prolonged esterification time as might have been expected. In this paper BEPD is compared with other glycols, e.g., neopentylglycol in coil polyesters. PigmentsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Coil coaters increasingly need to produce short runs of specific colours. Ideally, this needs colour pastes that are compatible with all binder systems. Resin-free pigment concentrate (RFPC) meet this need but may require high dispersant levels. A dispersant produced by CRFP improves economy by giving low viscosity and high colour strength RFPCs at lower dispersant levels. Note de contenu : - Changing patterns in colour production and demand
- Resin-free concentrates improve compatibility
- Seeking improved solutions
- Efficient dispersant improves RFPC economics
- Performance of dispersants compared in RFPCs
- Stability of carbon black RFPC is improved
- Organic and inorganic red pastes also improved
