Titre : β-Hydroxyalkyl amide type eco-friendly cross-linking agent for carboxylic acid functional acrylic resin for surface coating Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : D. A. Raval, Auteur ; V. M. Patel, Auteur Année de publication : 2005 Article en page(s) : p. 37-46 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Ambadi oil (Hibiscus Cannabibus) obtained from the seeds of the plant, which is apparently indigenous to India. The seeds of this plant after milling and solvent extraction yielded 13% oil. The β-hydroxyalkyl amide of Ambadi oil has been synthesized by reaction between Ambadi oil and diethanol amine in presence of zinc oxide as a catalyst. The reaction is relatively rapid and proceeded to high yield at 200° ′ 5°C. The resulting β-hydroxyalkyl amide was used to formulate thermosetting coating compositions. Films were cured at ambient lair drying) and elevated (stove diving) temperatures using N, N-bis (2-hydroxyethyl) fatty amide (HAFA) of Ambadi oil as eco-friendly cross-linking agent for acrylic resin. The coating performance of the various compositions was tested by measurement of scratch hardness, impact strength and chemical resistance. The results show better performance of the HAFA based compositions compared to butylated melamine formaldehyde (MF) based compositions. Titre : Calcium aluminium silicate and magnesium aluminium silicate as a partial replacement of opacifying pigment with improved performance Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Ashok Dighe, Auteur ; Hitesh Hirani, Auteur ; Chintan Patel, Auteur Année de publication : 2005 Article en page(s) : p. 47-58 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Titanium Dioxide is a multifaceted material in coating applications. It efficiently scatters visible light thereby imparting whiteness, brightness and opacity to paint and coating material. The cost of TiO2 is increasingsteadily and thus the cost of paint with minimum operational margin. There are two ways to stabilize this rise in cost, one is to lower the quality of paint by less use of essential ingredients and another way is to use the subsidiary product in the replacement of the primary product either cent percent replacement or partial replacement which gives some cost advantages.
This work is related to partially replacement of TiO2 pigment with calcium aluminum silicate and magnesium aluminum silicate in non aqueous and aqueous paints respectively with negligible effect on the quality of paint. The cent percent replacement of TiO2 is impossible and an attempt is made to replace it partially with cost benefit without affecting whiteness, brightness and opacity of paint. Both the extender pigments showed potential of replacing TiO2 in different type of coatings ranging from 5% to 18% by weight depending on the desired end properties.Note de contenu : - Hiding by spacing of TiO2 pigment particles
