Cracking a case is the objective of every good detective. Cracking a jake can be funny (depending on the joke) ; but cracking leather is no joke. The hunt is then on as to who is responsible and who can be blamed and made to pay compensation.
Cracks can occur at any stage of production, manufacture or in use. If detected immediately, then it is fairly easy to attribute cause. If not detected until later, it can be more difficult to establish the cause. This gives rise to 'passing of the buck', as each party tries to shift the blame elsewhere. |
