Résumé : |
As part of the treatment of leather tanning industry effluents, waste water treatment sludges are generated. In June, 2005, new German landfill regulations (TA Siedlungsabfall) will come into force which limits the organic content of disposable waste. Consequently wastes will have to be thermally treated prior to landfilling. Tannery sludges contain non-toxic Cr(III), but when burning these residues partial oxidation to the toxic Cr(VI) occurs.
A method is therefore required to avoid this oxidation. As part of a co-operative research project supported by the BMBF (Federal Ministry for Education and Research) and a German-Brazilian environmental programme, LGR has tested the low temperature conversion on leather industry sludges in an integrated pilot plant. A particular objective was that no Cr(VI) should be produced across the process. |
