Tannage Résumé : The manufacturing processes of leathers and skins are, at the present time, undergoing a change as a result of the demands of environmental pressure groups.
The chrome-free tanning processes such as vegetable, aluminium, and oil do not meet the needs of all the kinds of leather on the market. Present tendencies point to a reduction in the chrome offer or to an exhaustion of the chrome itself. In the light of the environmental tendencies it may well be that, in the future, chromium may be declared a hazardous metal. This event would have serious implications for the tanneries as far as the elimination of waste water and solid waste is concerned.
The solution, we believe, does not lie in reducing the usage of chromium but in the avoidance of its use. In this connection, processes based on synthetic compounds, other metals (copper, zirconium, aluminium, titanium,) aldehyde compounds (glutaraldehyde, formaldehyde, glyoxal, oxazolidines), polysilicic acids, polyamine derivatives and polycarboxylic acids have been reported. The use of chromium, albeit to a small degree, is still necessary in some of these processes.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EEvk1iH2B-wcQCYdBSF_B9pDbGkTOuE_/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=8792

Tannage Résumé : Totally organic tannages that start with an aromatic composition that lends itself to secondary reactions or crosslinking are one approach to the reduction or elimination of chrome as the primary tanning agent for leather. Our approach was to focus on the preparation of low molecular weight methacrylic acid copolymers with methacrylate comonomers in order to maintain a rigid-rod structure with functional groups extending from the rod. In one series we developed polymerization procedures with an aminomethacrylate monomer, to impart cationic functionality to the tanning molecule, and hydroxyethylmethacrylate to provide hydroxyl functionality for the second stage reaction. In another series, methacrolein was the only comonomer thus providing aldehyde functionality for the second stage reaction. For evaluation shrinkage temperatures were measured before and after the addition of crosslinking agents to the experimentally tanned stock. The best result for the hydroxyl functionality was 86°C obtained with glutaraldehyde, while for the aldehyde functionality the best result was 84°C obtained with oxazolidine. While lower than shrinkage temperatures obtained with chrome tanning, these values are high enough for automotive upholstery leather. Samples of these systems were retanned with a typical upholstery formulation and evaluated. These leathers met the physical requirements for automotive leathers, but we feel the retanning formulations and polymer compositions would need adjustments to improve color matching and to be certain the fatliquors are suitable for fogging tests.

Tannage Résumé : Zr-Al-Ti complex tanning agent was applied to the cattle hide after bating. The optimum technological conditions were : dosage of tanning agent 12 % of the bated pelt weight, tanning time after water supplement 5 hours, final temperature 40°C, the pH of basification 4.0. There was no need to pickle and add salt, the shrinkage temperature reached 94.6°C. SEM and histological section observations revealed that the fibre bundles were tight and similar to those of chrome-tanned leather, as were its tear strength, tensile strength and elongation at break, suggesting the potential to replace the conventional chrome process. Meanwhile, the new process can also effectively reduce chloride ion contamination. Tannage Résumé : The non-pickting tanning for cattle hide upper leather was carried out with chrome-less process based on zirconium-aluminium-titanium tanning (DMT-II) in this paper. The best material offers of DMT-Il and chrome tanning agent were selected through preliminary experiments. The operating parameters in the tanning process, including the pretreatment, the temperature after basification and the final pH, were optimize using the orthogonal testing method. The chrome content of wastewater was chosen as an evaluation index. The evaluation indexes of the optimum scheme were compared with those of the conventional chrome tanning method. The shrinkage temperature of the crust leather (Ts), the chrome content of wastewater BOD5/COD and the gross mechanical property and the histological sections Were evaluated.
The results.showed that the shrinkage temperature of the crust leather could be up to 90°C when the tanning temperature was 35°C and the pH after tanning was 4.5, the chrome content of the wastewater was less than 50mgL-1. The BOD5/COD was much higher than those of the.converitional chrome tanning method. Moreover, the shrinkage temperature, mechanical properties, crust leather fibres tighter density were comparable to those of conventional chrome tanning.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Experimental procedures
