A major shift from water and rail based transport to roads bas been seen in UK, Europe and other developed nations. From many centuries it has been a trend to construct the road by using bitumen which is a dark or black coloured (solid/semi solid/viscous) material. But the handling of bitumen at ambient temperature is very difficult since it is a highly viscous material. lt can, however be transformed into a workable state by blending with petroleum solvents, leads to the emission of VOC, which is harmful to environment. Bitumen is net cost effective due to the increased sensitivity of the material to temperature and adverse weather condition. The maintenance cost for bitumen construction is also high. So scientists have thought about cost effective and environmentally friendly solution for construction work & bitumen emulsion is one of the outcomes of their innovative thought.
This paper will discuss about Bitumen emulsions, its manufacturing techniques and their advantages over asphalt/bitumen in construction/pavementwork.Note de contenu : - INTRODUCTION : Bitumen - Chemical components in bitumen are : Water - kerosene (optional) - Emulsifier - Non-ionic emulsifier - Calcium chloride - Sodium tri polyphosphate - Adhesion promoters - Alsphalt peptizer

Revêtements décoratifs:Peinture décorativeIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The 21st century has seen an evolution of surface coatings for fulfilling a more focused functional role, other than the conventional one of decoration and protection. These functional coatings are able to have properties which are innovative and impactful and can significantly contribute to improving living life environmental comfort level. Disturbance of domestic ambience by external chemical and biological intruder have a direct impact on general hygiene and safety. Although a significant progress has been made in modem science to tackle these problems, which is functional coatings. Here, some of the functional coatings will be discussed and their impact on human health, comfort, safety and hygiene.
Introduction of functionalities is the key for developing coatings with desirable properties, for example nano particle and polymers having antimicrobial properties when incorporated in coatings can easily improve the overall hygiene there by health. In similar fashion Piezo electric materials, when applied to coatings can detect damage sites in buildings, thus, increasing the general safety. Furthermore, phase changing materials and coatings that can convert sunlight to electricity offers alternatives for maximizing output from natural resources providing a much sustainable environment.Note de contenu : - ANTI-MICROBIAL COATINGS : Ag nanoparticles - Nano magnesium oxide - Nano titanium di oxide - Polymeric N-halamide latex emulsion

Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Nature has inspired scientists to create hydrophilic and hydrophobie paint surfaces. Considerable efforts have been made over the last few decades for developing self-cleaning surfaces exhibiting high contact angles for both polar and non-polar liquids. Self-cleaning coatings are becoming a requirement as integral part of our daily life because of their utility in various applications. Self-cleaning coatings are applied to maintain interior and exterior hygiene of the building structure and also in many automotive appliances.
This paper is regarding various approaches in self-cleaning coatings like superhydrophilicity, superhydrophobicity and Omniphobicity. Nano TiO2 chemically breaks down organic dirt, adsorbed onto the surface. Dirt can be washed with water sheets due to superhydrophilicity. Superhydrophilicity is required for uniform cleaning of the surfaces. White superhydrophobic coatings impart water beading due to high contact angle which in tum keep surface clean. Omni phobie (omni: all ; phobie: repellent) due to very low surface tension value and surface morphology repel almost all types of liquids from paint surface. A broad range of applications of omniphobic coatings are : in Decorative & automotive field, permaclean cloths, anti-icing coatings for metals etc.Note de contenu : - BASICS OF SELF-CLEANING
